(Hock Shoe Project)

Animals, Shape, texture and Shoes

Jan Taminiau a Dutch designer who is very sculptrual and has recently done a collection in paris, Lady Gaga is a big fan of his work, due to its outraguos but beautifull white drapped style. he also does a range of shoes that often have a big impact to the indutry.

Mori, Junko
This was a shoe project and was eger to get started, I started looking at kitchen utensals.and shapes formed from them so I started to look at animal legs (the hock) and in relation to shoes. This did help but this project was all about manipulation and pushed forward with the shapes i had already and always thinking about 2D and 3D.
Traditionaly Skin of animals was used for survival in exstreme conditions, for example south pole. this is in someways start of fashion tocome. I began to look into skins and texture for my shoe becuase i was lacking any colour. Materials are always being used in the industry and always been an important issue. obviusly im not going to kill any animals so i tryed to adampt the same feel and look by useing different texhniques, burning wood, tea bags and coffie and using ink and dies.

  • I was looking at this artist beacuse the way he looks into texture a rather lot in his work. I have show a link between his fashion outfits and shoes. the good range of colours all work with each other.
Looking back on my work i woulda loved to been able to have the time to create a whole outfit to go with my shoes and have been able to try and use a range of materials that all work together. one this i woukld try to improve on my shoes, is the hill. being able to try more ideas and design to get it hwo i wanted, maybe wood was not the right material to use? or maybe needed more time to craft it to the shape i wanted.
    (Flower Project)

Line, repitition, shape and Stephen Jones

This project was all about looking at a flower and creating shapes, the research i looked at was about line and repitition, looked at architecture and the artist Stephen Jones who had this structual form that was similair to mine and i am thinking about designing a hat or shoe. so i need to push my ideas forward to see what would be aproprate.
This image is next to one of my designs, when looking at it i could feel a very strong connection with cacoons due to its repitive and wrapping feel, shape and individual sections. I did try to push this research forward but i wasnt feeling it, so i moved onto somthing that would get me heading the right way.

This work and architectual feel is what i needed to be able to push me forward. when looking at the research i decided to work with fabric and playing around with stitching and overlapping, when looking at the picture above when loking at the creases i decided to had a piping rod into the fabric and stich that into it to create these rather good qulaity structure pieces.
I am thinking i would love to exstend this projet by actauly trying to design some shoes with these bit of fabric with the pipe rods in them, i did some desings on paper and will be desinging more detailed ones ready for making.

     Contextual Research
    (Cog Fashion Designs)

                                                       Connection, rotation, rust and decay

My initual starting point for this project was looking at BMX cogs on bikes, I started cutting the shape out on my reflective journal, then started to design my own designs. Looking a bikes was not enough so looking into broken clocks and watched was perfect to had to this project and went into printing to develop my designs (above).

I needed more contextual research to looking back at wrapping technigues i did when nitting and stitching to create a veriaty of fabrics. it reminded me of egyption mummys. I already like the idea of stiching overthe top of things and actauly showing it insted its often hidden away, just like the mummys. i design a few fashion illitration to genrally gwet the whole feel of this theme and i like it. so i started working on some desing ang thinking about print also.

(Sophia Kokosalaki Egyptian Inspired Designs 2008)

I enjoyed this project alot, and was happy with my outcome but i recon i could of come out with alot more. if it wasnt with getting not anough inperation and i feel like manipulating fabric by sowing and nitting in not my thing, the reason why i concentrated on printing. if i was to revisit this project i would go back so my intial research and the egytion theme and combine them togetehr and restart some desing but sticking to the print side of it all and then actaulty print onto fabric that had the same kind of feel and texture as old mummy rags and hopfully try to create some kinda of garment and soem powerfull illtration to go with it.
